McKenzie’s film career began with her 2014 short film The House That Jack Built (winner of the Best Short Film Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival). Since then, she has made three feature films – The Picture Show (2018), I’m Not Famous (2018), and Our Song (2020). Since she was a child, McKenzie has been interested in film. Her first short film, The House That Jack Built, was her way of exploring this interest. She told the BBC that making films is “a really interesting process that I really enjoy and it’s something that I want to continue doing for as long as I can.”

Thomasin McKenzie was born in the town of Inverness, Scotland in 1966. She started out as an arts student and worked as a graphic designer before she decided to move to New York City in 1990. There, she began her career as an assistant editor at The New Yorker and soon became known for her work on covers and interior illustrations for magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and GQ.

In 2002, she moved back to Scotland and started working as a freelance illustrator. In 2009, she created the book Thomasin McKenzie: A Life in Art which chronicled her life from an art perspective. Since its release, it has been awarded several accolades including being one of the best books of the year by The Guardian and being named one of TIME magazine’s “The 10 Best Books of 2009”.

Thomassen is most well-known for her songs which have been featured on albums by Madonna, U2, Kylie Minogue, Timbaland,Beyonce & Jay-Z, Nas & Damian Marley etc.. Thomassen has also written two children’s books – One about twins who are separated at birth and the other about a boy who discovers his true identity after his father dies.

Thomassen has also composed several pieces for film including an original score for the Scottish independent movie Loch Lomond (2006).

Thomassen has worked on films ranging from short films to feature films and has won numerous awards including an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay for Loch Lomond (2006). Her new film project is a story about a girl who moves from Glasgow to Edinburgh to study art but quickly realizes that there is more to life than just looking at pictures!
